Dr. Matthew Tonero received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Michigan State University. Following a small animal surgery and medicine internship at Texas A&M University, Dr. Tonero completed a three-year small animal internal medicine residency at the University of Illinois. He enjoys all aspects of internal medicine, but has special interest in endocrine diseases, immune-mediated and hematologic diseases, renal diseases, and gastrointestinal diseases.

He married his wife, Athena, in 2019, and together have 3 dogs. They enjoy training their dogs (obedience, agility, and scent work), going for hikes, eating out, watching movies and plays, and watching sports (college football, pro football, baseball, and hockey). They chose to move to Asheville because of the food, mountains, pet-friendliness of the town, and great overall community.
