David Grant
Dr. Grant graduated from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine in 1999 and completed a rotating internship there the following year. He then completed an Internal Medicine Residency, a Masters Degree in Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences, and board certification by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2003 all at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. He practiced Internal Medicine, taught, and did research there for the next 20 years. He obtained research grants totaling nearly $500,000, published more than 30 scientific studies in peer-reviewed journals, and received 10 teaching awards during that time. He also created a minimally-invasive endourological service at the VMCVM performing procedures including laser lithotripsy, uretheral and ureteral stenting, and laser ablation of tumors and ectopic ureters.
In 2023 he started new adventures. He now has an Internal Medicine service in Roanoke, Virginia and does locum tenens work; this means he fills in for Internal Medicine Specialists when needed, including here at SAVES. He enjoys bringing his wife, his two bully mixes, and his elderly dog Roxanne on his locum tenens trips. He is truly committed to strong communication and followup with pet owners even when he is not at SAVES. In such situations, he works closely with our Internal Medicine technicians to respond to pet owner and referring veterinarian questions, to order and interpret diagnostic tests, and prescribe treatments so continuity is maintained.
